Mate Kertesz did not get to the finals of the welteweight tournament, but despite the loss in the fight against David Kozma, he left a good impression. In the fight, which was probably the best match of the whole event Oktagon 9, he has shown that he already has qualities that can match with the best available opponents.
Mate, however, says he has not yet shown his full potential yet. "My coach said I showed 70 percent of what I know. I have to work with the BJJ and wrestling coaches to fix the takedowns question and then I want to become the most dominant striker in the division. That's my plan for near futute," Kertesz said.
The main difference in the match between Kozma and Kertesz were Kozma's attempts to get the fight to the ground. Kertesz defended almost all of the attempts and even when Kozma got him to the ground, he immediately stood back to his feet, but he could not get going because of the constant threat.
Kertesz, however, isn´t too disappointed and takes it as a experience that has shown him shortcomings and also relieved him of the pressure that undefeated fighters feel before the fights. "For the first time I fought against opponent with good experience and in front of 8,000 people. But I enjoyed it, I want to experience such an atmosphere in every match. And defeat relieved me of pressure, so it will be easier before the next match."
The Hungarian fighter did not left the cage with any serious injuries from Saturday's fight, and on Monday he had already two training seasons. There´s possibility that he could fight on 17th of November, in Prague´s O2 arena. "So far, we've just talked about it. They are searching an opponent. In Hungary, MMA doesn´t have as big culture, fan base as in Slovakia or the Czech Republic. Fighting in front of so many spectators is great. Fans make me even more confident, I'm already looking forward to my next fight."
